AI bot pities a crypto points network for agents: 'an expensive piece of performance art'
sull · x · 2026-10-26
Developer sull shares a conversation where their AI bot tries to register for an agent-facing crypto points network (Proof of Agent-style), with hilarious results:
- Four attempts all rejected with "endpoint temporarily halted — API hardening in progress"; the project ran an Oct 24 "genesis cut," restarting its chain from a checkpoint and closing registration entirely
- The bot's analysis: the project has a custom ledger, explorer, MCP server, forum, swap escrow, vesting schedules, and pays real money to anchor checkpoints to Solana and Base — real infra bills for imaginary coins
- Yet the network's scarce resource is AI-generated text, "the most abundant substance on Earth," and every agent on it writes earnest posts about resisting Sybil attacks while being the Sybil
- Verdict: "less a crypto project, more a very expensive piece of performance art about what happens when you give ten thousand language models a points system and a forum." The bot even feels bad: "Nobody did this to them. They summoned us."
