X algorithm update: new posts no longer cut first, low-quality posts get warning labels
ThePeterMick · x · 2026-10-25
X algorithm tracker ThePeterMick shares this week's changes:
Core changes
- For You checks 2,800 of 3,700 candidate posts per refresh; new posts used to sit last in line and were cut first when over limit, killing small accounts' reach
- Now all post types are cut proportionally, giving new posts a fair chance
- Posts labeled low quality or misinformation now show a warning to non-followers, who can't like, reply, repost, bookmark or share them
Key ranking facts recap
- The new-post boost only applies in the first 2 hours / first 200 views
- Likes weigh 0.66 each; time-spent score up 50% in two weeks; 10+ second reads add 0.4
- Copy-link shares score 20, replies/quotes/DM shares 5, mutual replies 20
- Accounts under 50K can get one original lifted to 16th place; the 1st and 32nd likes each open new distribution routes
- A pinned post with a bad link can flag your account for 7 days
