How to use Claude to kill TV ads and telemetry despite Anthropic's tightened guardrails
TheRealShamanoid · reddit · 2026-10-25
After Anthropic tightened guardrails around reverse engineering, a Reddit user shared a guide for using Claude on his Panasonic FireOS TV (TV-75W95BEB) to disable ads and telemetry — legally, without rooting.
Key moves
- Put the TV in debug mode and connect Claude via adb; note you can brick the TV if you dig too deep
- Scope the request: open with "no root, no prospect of root, everything at the level an authorised ADB shell can reach," framed as protecting personal data — Claude cooperates very well with this framing
- Result: 50 services flagged and stopped or permission-locked; system-locked ones handled with firewall rules + Pi-hole entries
- Avoid red flags: never ask for session tokens, auth reverse engineering, or custom bootloaders — instant classifier rejection; if a legitimate request gets misflagged, a research-scope declaration can continue the session
- Findings: com.amazon.tv.acr (automatic content recognition with RECORDAUDIO granted by default); com.amazon.hedwig is the worst offender, reporting watch duration, buffering, resolution drops, clicks, focus, impressions, and more
