A book excerpt shared on X recounts Dario Amodei's college years: at Caltech, his first-year physics professor Tom Tombrello was so impressed that he called him a "national treasure" and personally lobbied Elon Musk and Larry Page to hire him, emailing Musk "This is the smartest guy ever" with Amodei's résumé attached. Musk actually offered Amodei a job at SpaceX, but he declined, later transferring to Stanford.
