1,000+ mathematicians form Association for Human Mathematics, pledging to shun AI and frontier labs

Over 1,000 mathematicians have joined the newly formed Association for Human Mathematics (AHM), collectively pledging to:
- Not publish AI-generated math papers
- Not work with frontier AI labs
- 654 of them went further, committing to not use AI in their research at all
Quoted commentary mocks the move as unrealistic: academics can refuse AI in their spare time, but who will pay for academic jobs solving problems AI has already solved? Others lament it as a sad state for the field. The episode reflects deep anxiety and resistance in academia over AI's impact on research value and careers.
