Task-specific inference engines emerging as specialization costs collapse, argue researchers

Wanqi Yang notes task-specific inference engines are emerging as a major real-world use case for agentic coding applied to ML systems.
Hxiao adds that "inference overfitting is accelerating": demand for specialization has always existed, but its cost is collapsing. When an RSI-style system can write its own kernels, run its own hill-climbing, and optimize against a crisply defined inference-speed KPI, overfitting inference becomes nearly free.
