DeepMind 5-month study: same proactive AI agent was a 'lifesaver' to some, stress to others
rohanpaul_ai · x · 2026-10-25
A Google DeepMind qualitative study tracked a proactive AI agent 'teammate' across 20+ teams at a large tech company for 5 months, interviewing 17 users. Experiences split sharply: some called it a lifesaver while others felt watched and moved sensitive talks to agent-free chats. It treated stale docs as current, tagged a VP on 16 bugs, shared a draft poster early, and misread sarcasm. Teams that chose the agent forgave early mistakes; those who felt it was imposed did not. Recommendations: deploy with team consent, separate permissions, easy undo.
