Posting your own face can cost $150,000: BACKGRID has sued Bieber, Perry, J.Lo over paparazzi shots

In a reply, Aakash Gupta highlights a recurring US copyright controversy: Amanda Bynes could face $150,000 in damages per image if she posts certain photos of herself. Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, J.Lo, Lisa Rinna and Kanye West have all been sued for posting paparazzi shots of their own faces.
The agency BACKGRID, which sold these photos to Page Six, has sued each of them. The legal basis: under US law, copyright belongs to whoever pressed the shutter, not the person pictured. Main post itself is a promo for Gupta's newsletter (AI by Aakash, 241k+ subscribers).
