Career advice for breaking into applied AI: make your work visible, not just more projects
brandon_galang · x · 2026-10-25
An engineer who transitioned into applied AI argues that "let your work speak for itself" is terrible advice — recruiters already form assumptions from your last job title, so you must actively give them reasons to see otherwise.
Side projects mattered less for being inspected than for what they let him discuss fluently in interviews. His advice: audit your profile and recent posts first, write publicly about what you're trying and what isn't working, and join conversations where you have real insight. If your work isn't visible anywhere, fix that before assuming you need another month of prep.
