Microsoft open-sources Skill Recorder: demo a task once, AI generates the agent skill
udmrzn · x · 2026-10-25
Microsoft has open-sourced Skill Recorder, a tool built on a simple idea: instead of writing prompts, just demonstrate a task once and let AI turn it into a reusable agent skill.
- Workflow: record your on-screen actions (clicks, window switches, terminal commands); GitHub Copilot analyzes the recording, extracts the task goal and steps, and auto-generates a SKILL.md or a scheduled Automation.
- v0.7.0: adds a SKILL.md preview modal — you can inspect the full file (including frontmatter and substituted values) before installing or exporting, reusing the prepared file without another model call.
- Platforms: macOS, Windows 11, and Ubuntu; requires GitHub Copilot access.
- Privacy note: recordings are stored locally, but data is sent to GitHub's cloud when you hit Analyze — avoid sensitive input.
