Claude Code's public face Thariq leaves Anthropic just ahead of reported IPO
AGI Hunt · wechat · 2026-10-24
Thariq, an Anthropic engineer who spent over a year on Claude Code, has announced his departure. Though only an MTS and not Claude Code's creator (that's Boris), he was its de facto public face: he built AskUserQuestion, championed Skills and the "HTML is the new markdown" thesis, and handled incident communications including the cache bug and mistaken-charge refunds.
The timing is notable: it lands right before Anthropic's reported IPO window (S-1 possibly next week, listing before Thanksgiving), raising questions about unvested equity. In farewell replies he joked "wait is it just me or is Opus 5.5 dumber" and endorsed "race to the top." The author speculates he may follow "godfather" Tibo to OpenAI.
