User roots Samsung TV with Codex to strip spyware, making it 3x faster

A user used OpenAI's Codex to root their Samsung TV and disable built-in tracking: per-second screenshots for content fingerprinting, HDMI input snooping, and Bixby's always-on wake-word listening. The result: a 3x faster TV (Claude refused to help).
Stanford law professor Jonathan Zittrain amplified it, tying it back to his 2008 book on how the "appliancification" of hardware undermines user freedom — "enshittification before enshittification" — and joked there should be a millennium prize for doing the same to a printer.
