Altman warns AI finds hardware-level bugs 'outside the threat model'; Sinofsky pushes back

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman: "I don't even know a dramatic enough word… models can find bugs outside the normal threat model of what we think a hacker can do… hardware-level, insane stuff… I no longer think we're gonna be able to just patch all the bugs." Former Microsoft executive Steven Sinofsky quoted and countered: every step-function change in automated bug-finding tools — floppy scanning, buffer overruns, XSS, script kiddies — triggered the same "all hands" panic (one day 10,000 new latent bugs appear), and this wave is the pattern continuing, not something unprecedented.
