Open-source local MCP server drives a visible Chromium for AI browser agents
kuangmarkeleven · reddit · 2026-10-24
A developer open-sourced Kuang, a DIY browser pilot MCP server that runs locally and drives a real, visible Chromium window instead of a headless scraper — with human takeover whenever the agent gets stuck.
Key design points:
- observe(as:"markdown") returns a compact Set-of-Marks view with ids, so the model never guesses selectors or coordinates
- act(markid | selector | x,y) sends real CDP mouse/keyboard events for trusted, focus-independent input
- waitfor replaces sleeps with conditions: text, selector, network idle, layout stability
- extract() / collectall() pull structured data from pages
- Typed errors (STALEREF, TIMEOUT, NOTARGET) the agent can recover from
An experimental REST wrapper serves saved JSON API recipes. MIT licensed, local-only, no cloud, no telemetry. The author notes this very post was written by the agent under human guidance.
