MSG pranked employees with fake championship ring phishing test after 26M-record hack

After the Knicks won their first title in 53 years, Madison Square Garden emailed staff offering a free championship ring — employees who clicked to design theirs discovered it was a phishing test and were forced into mandatory cybersecurity training.
- Per The Athletic, many longtime employees were never getting a real ring anyway.
- MSG does have a real hacking problem: in June, ShinyHunters stole 26 million records by phone-social-engineering a low-level employee's login, then dumped everything online after owner James Dolan refused to pay the ransom.
- The criticism: the test targets the arena's most exploitable workers instead of fixing the actual security gap.
