OpenAI discloses critical Brotli flaw enabling unauthenticated system takeover in Node.js, Bun, Envoy
seanwbren · x · 2026-10-24
OpenAI has disclosed a critical vulnerability in Brotli, a widely used compression library embedded in Node.js, Bun, and Envoy.
The bug lets an attacker take over a system simply by sending malicious compressed data — no login required. It cuts both ways: an unpatched server can be hijacked by a hacker, or a malicious server can hijack an unpatched user's device.
The poster notes no flaws have been found so far in Elixir/Phoenix.
