Lifelong EdTech skeptic says Alpha School's AI apps changed her mind
Afinetheorem · x · 2026-10-24
Karen Vaites recounts her 10-month journey at Alpha School. Once one of the loudest EdTech skeptics — she blamed weak EdTech for a decade of declining student outcomes — she joined the Learning Scientists team at Carl Hendrick's invitation, focusing on early reading. She has now shipped a second app into Alpha classrooms, and says their first early-reading app, Alpha Phonics, 'completely changed my thinking about what's possible in the AI era.' Her conclusion: AI can, in fact, change the potential of EdTech.
