Laurent Younes (Johns Hopkins) has released his book 'Introduction to Machine Learning' for free. It teaches the math behind core ML concepts and key methods: neural networks, graphical and generative models, optimization and bias–variance, regression, SVMs and kernels, decision trees, clustering and generalization bounds. It builds from calculus, linear algebra and probability (with measure theory) through matrix analysis and optimization, supporting algorithms like SGD and proximal methods.
