Codex slow? It's re-running your full test suite after every tiny fix
Some-Following-392 · reddit · 2026-10-24
A user noticed Codex taking up to 2 hours for basic tasks. The cause: the agent runs the application's full test suite—even for small, localized changes—and each time it finds an issue, it fixes it and re-runs thousands of tests again, looping endlessly.
The fix: instruct it to run only targeted tests on the code being modified and to justify any additional tests. After this change, average task time dropped to 10-15 minutes.
