Journals could split: positivist AI-assisted papers vs speculative writing
RobbWiller · x · 2026-10-24
Robb Willer sketches a possible future: clearly label and sort journals by content type. Most social science journals would feature falsifiable theory, data, and analysis—produced and reviewed with whatever AI support aids rigor, with 100% open data. A smaller set of journals could keep speculative, aesthetic, subjective writing on the same topics, which he finds generative and enjoyable, even if such papers risk becoming more soulless.
