Google Universal Cart goes live in US Search with add-to-cart buttons

Google's Universal Cart is now live in the U.S. Search results show "Add to cart" buttons in product listings, adding items to a cart icon at the top right; it's also appearing in Gemini.
The feature was demoed at Google I/O in May and rolled out to most users over the past weekend. SEO commentator gaganghotra responded that he hopes it fails, arguing merchant carts are far better than Google's Universal Cart.
