Flow Matching Explained: Why Streamlines Shift as the Noise Step Changes
CSProfKGD · x · 2026-10-24
CS professor KGD answers a question about flow matching visualizations: the orbits shown are the level sets of the base Gaussian (he debated including the label), and the flow lines shift because the velocity field depends on the noise step t — as t changes, the predicted velocity at each point changes, so the streamlines shift too, which is expected behavior in flow matching.
