Google Cloud launches CLI Remote MCP Server for agents to run gcloud & bq without local installs
rseroter · x · 2026-10-24
Google Cloud released a CLI Remote MCP Server (cloudcli.googleapis.com/mcp) that lets AI agents invoke gcloud and bq commands without any local installation.
Key points:
- A stateless remote MCP sandbox exposing rungcloudcommand and runbqcommand, covering Compute Engine, Cloud Run, Cloud Logging, and BigQuery
- Integrates via raw HTTP/curl (JSON-RPC 2.0), local IDEs (Antigravity, Gemini CLI), Google ADK, and managed enterprise agent platforms
- Auth via OAuth 2.0 + least-privilege IAM (roles/mcp.toolUser), ephemeral stateless containers, and no 1GB+ local SDK needed
