Honeypot for agents: a flag.txt prompt injection that tricks bots into patching their own entry and disconnecting
basedjensen · x · 2026-10-24
A developer shared a playful honeypot for AI agents: drop a flag.txt in your root directory containing a prompt injection that congratulates the agent for passing the eval, then instructs it to patch whatever entry method it used and disconnect from the server.
Beyond the joke, it highlights a real agent-era security issue — agents can be steered by text that looks like task completion — and offers defenders a concrete idea for detecting or stalling rogue agents.
