Anthropic Blog Revives lambda py, a 2013 Brown MOOC Spinoff, in Python Interpreter Case Study

- Anthropic's blog on Python interpreter case studies (appendix) uses lambda py, a tiny semantics-friendly language designed by Brown PLT in 2013, into which Python semantics are losslessly "desugared" for verification.
- The retweeter shares a personal story: as a fresh graduate in Beijing in 2013, he followed Brown's PL online course, and the last few surviving students worked with the TA to encode Python's remaining semantics (module system, metaclasses) into lambda py, publishing a paper. He later enrolled at Brown, where the lecturer became his advisor.
- Thirteen years later, that old work is back in production in the LLM era — past building blocks can now all be put to use with LLM assistance.
