Amazon Quick Sight layer maps add GeoJSON Point and LineString support for routes and locations
AWS ML Blog · rss · 2026-10-24
AWS announced that Quick Sight layer maps now support two additional GeoJSON geometry types beyond Polygons: Point and LineString.
- LineString: connects ordered coordinates into paths for flight routes, delivery paths, pipelines; color encoding from a joined dataset field, plus width and opacity controls
- Point: uniform marker size, no geocoding (explicit coordinates required), in exchange for precise viewport control with panning/zooming disabled
- Configuration hinges on selecting the geometry type and joining the GeoJSON properties key to the dataset key; .geojson files up to 100 MB
- Includes end-to-end examples (JFK flight routes, retail store locations) and dataset structure guidance
Complements the native point map visual, which handles geocoding and dynamic refresh for frequently changing data.
