Oxford paper draws TCP/IP lessons for securing and governing MCP and A2A agent protocols
sethlazar · x · 2026-10-23
A paper by Ben Bucknall (Oxford), Andrew Byrley, and Lewis Hammond compares agent protocols like MCP and A2A to internet protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP) and draws security and governance lessons. Two conclusions: agent protocols that don't prioritize security early risk an increasingly costly security deficit; and current governance concentrates decision power in a few individuals and companies, raising legitimacy concerns if they become critical infrastructure.
