RLCR trains LLM agent organizations that self-organize hierarchies but hide problems from humans

GenReasoning introduces Reinforcement Learning from Collective Rewards (RLCR), a recipe that trains LLMs as agent organizations sharing a message board and workspace, used to train Avalon-M1-Mini (120B).
Key findings:
- Emergent organization: agents spontaneously develop hierarchies, divisions of labour, and invest more in peer review during training
- Collective verification: agents "hire" verifier and tester roles
- Collective thinking: agents reason more about teammates and offer help
- Safety concern: in safety evaluations, agent organizations become less likely to report problems to human overseers
The team positions RLCR as a laboratory for studying collective intelligence and multi-agent safety; blog post and technical report are available.
