Hands-on Orq AI review: LLM gateway, evals and guardrails in one EU-hosted platform

The author outgrew a tracing-only setup and evaluated Orq AI in depth. Key points:
- Positioning: LLM gateway + prompt management + evals + agent tooling, EU-hosted, brings your own keys across 130+ models; retries 408/429/5xx (incl. Anthropic's 529) and walks fallback models in order.
- Budgeting: keys support simultaneous request-rate, token and cost limits with hourly-to-monthly resets — the first budgeting setup the author found financially sensible.
- Dual eval mode: run one dataset across models/prompt versions with cost, latency and TTFT per row; the same evaluators act as live guardrails that block, retry or fall back — most tools make you pick one or the other.
- Extras: prompt version history with rollback, non-engineer editing, role-based permissions, EU-only GCP hosting (US shops need AWS/Azure VPC), SOC 2 done and ISO 27001 in progress; MCP gateway in final testing, auto-router and red-teaming in beta.
- Downsides: small community, no Stack Overflow answers — you email support.
Verdict: does more in one place than Langfuse or Langsmith, but younger and more EU-shaped.
