'An entire synthetic company should be $99/year' — can AI agents get there?
seanmcdonaldxyz · x · 2026-10-23
Developer seanmcdonaldxyz floats the idea that a whole "synthetic company" — a business run by AI agents — should cost just $99 a year, and asks whether we're there yet.
He quotes his own earlier post introducing ATAT, an open-source email AI agent he built in 2024: it puts agents inside the inbox and lets users wire up dozens of AI capabilities in minutes. His argument is that email is the right medium for agents — it doesn't demand constant attention, can wait a day for a reply, is safe and universally understood. The pitch: email your agent, then go do something else instead of staying glued to a chatbot.
