Open-source hatchzip unpacks from the end, eating the archive as it goes
GabGarrett · x · 2026-10-23
A classic pain point: unzipping a huge archive needs room for both the archive and the extracted files, often failing at the last moment with "not enough disk space." The free, open-source tool hatchzip solves this by unpacking from the end and consuming the archive as it goes, so no extra space is needed. Works on Windows, macOS and Linux. The commenter marvels this wasn't standardized a decade ago.
