Quest Diagnostics Hacked: Patient Records Accessed via Quanum Lab Portal, SEC Filing Reveals
alex_verem · x · 2026-10-23
Quest Diagnostics — serving half of US physicians and hospitals and one in three American adults yearly — disclosed a breach:
- Oct 21: unauthorized access found in Quanum Lab Services Manager, the portal clinics use to order tests and view results
- The company believes "certain patient records" were accessed; scale, data types, and entry method still unknown
- Portal paused and other provider tools shut off as precaution; labs kept running, EMR and direct lab connections unaffected
- Quest says it's unrelated to this week's PHP bugs
- Prior incidents: 34,000 patients via an app in 2016, 11.9 million via a billing vendor in 2019
Notably, the entry point this time was the customer-facing portal itself.
