Italy's AI workplace decree takes effect Oct 23: no fully automated hiring and firing decisions
emmanuelvivier · x · 2026-10-23
Italy adopted Legislative Decree No. 179/2026 on Oct 7 to align with the EU AI Act, effective Oct 23. Article 41 bars employment decisions — hiring, performance reviews, assignments, career progression, discipline, and terminations — from being based solely on automated processes. Companies must guarantee meaningful human intervention, with the final decision made by a person, and the decree reaffirms that AI cannot replace human oversight and responsibility over workers.
