WebbWatch AI: open-source JWST data explorer with local LLM support and 6,451-planet atlas
brandorambo25 · reddit · 2026-10-23
An MIT-licensed open-source project, WebbWatch AI, lets users explore public James Webb Space Telescope data and exoplanets. The JWST side ingests public metadata, renders previews from FITS files, and runs deterministic analysis before optional local (Ollama) or cloud AI report summaries. An Exoplanet Portrait Atlas snapshots NASA's catalog of 6,451 confirmed planets and generates hypothetical planet illustrations with prompts and evidence saved per version. The design rigorously separates Measured / Inferred / Illustrative so LLM interpretation can't be mistaken for measurement. Stack: Next.js/TypeScript + FastAPI/Python, optional Redis workers; catalog browsing is free. Repo: github.com/bneidlinger/webbentry
