AI researcher Ofir Press found out his PhD stomping grounds at the University of Washington once housed the More Hall Annex — a nuclear research reactor (100 kW thermal, inaugurated 1961, shut down 1988, decommissioned 2007). The Brutalist building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, demolished in 2016, and replaced by the current computer science building. He jokes about getting his DNA sequenced.
