Chrome explains the pre-connection HTTP warning: stopping eavesdropping before data leaves the device
laparisa · x · 2026-10-23
Chrome's laparisa explains the rationale: "Not Secure" badging only alerts users after an unencrypted request has already leaked on the wire. By halting before the connection happens, Chrome stops network eavesdropping and tampering before data leaves the device.
The team says the change was built with sensible ergonomics; details in the official blog post.
