$100K Open Kernel Challenge accused of copying GPU MODE OSS code via AI agent rewrite
josh_wills · x · 2026-10-23
Daniel Gross's team launched a $100,000 challenge to speed up Muse Spark, and GPU MODE member marksaroufim alleges the organizers took GPUMODE's open-source code, had an agent rewrite it in Go, shipped a closed-source binary without credit, and refuse to release entries. An audit repo presents receipts: all 60 benchmark seeds exactly match GPU MODE's July 2025 Cantor-pairing seed-mixing formula, failing submissions return the same exit code 112 as KernelBot's VALIDATEFAIL, and the six benchmark statistics and mode names (test/benchmark/leaderboard/profile) are identical.
