Cheap SaaS plans die by support: price subscriptions to afford the inbox
sujingshen · x · 2026-10-23
A widely shared indie hacker point: everyone wants recurring revenue, few talk about the recurring effort required to earn it — support, retention, bugs, churn. A SaaS is a business, not a money printer.
sujingshen adds a practical angle: the cheapest SaaS tiers are the most likely to be dragged down by support load — users paying a few dollars a month ask no fewer questions than enterprise customers. Price your subscription high enough to afford the time spent answering emails, or low-ARPU plans will eat the business via support costs.
