The News in Data charted ChatGPT's growth against Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and Twitter from each product's launch. ChatGPT, launched Nov 30, 2022, passed 1 billion weekly active users in roughly 44 months (1.2B by late September) — faster than TikTok's 49 months, Instagram's 92, and Facebook's 103 (Twitter never got there). Notably, OpenAI counts weekly users while the social platforms reported monthly. On looser metrics, Meta AI claimed 1B monthly users in just 20 months and Gemini 41 months, both riding existing app distribution; Grok sits at 117M monthly users.
