Claude apps default to auto mode, blocking 89% of dangerous commands

Anthropic announced that starting next week, sessions across Claude web, desktop, and mobile apps will run in auto mode by default on Pro, Max, and Team plans. Instead of asking users to approve each step, an automated check blocks risky actions, with manual mode still available.
The change follows the Claude Code update making auto mode the default permission mode from August 14: a separate classifier reviews shell commands and actions, catching 89% of dangerous commands in testing versus 14% for manual approval.
