Three new studies: AI search sends only ~0.6% of Google's traffic — GEO may not pay off

Three independent studies published in the past week (by Marie Haynes, SEO Works, and Kevin Indig) reach a consistent conclusion: investing in AI visibility / GEO may not be worth it.
- Marie Haynes analyzed 12 months of GA4 data across 100 websites with 145M+ sessions: ChatGPT sessions amounted to just 0.62% of Google organic volume — though ChatGPT visitors converted at 4.5x+ the rate.
- SEO Works and Kevin Indig likewise found AI assistants drive a tiny fraction of traffic and conversions compared to Google.
The SEO practitioner quoting these studies pushes back, insisting "SEO for the win — was, is, and always will be."
