Drop a PowerShell Script in a Folder, Get a Live MCP Tool
dfinke · x · 2026-10-23
Doug Finke, a 16-time Microsoft MVP, presents PSMcpServer, a native PowerShell streamable-HTTP MCP server that points at a folder of scripts, reads their param blocks, builds tool schemas and serves them.
- With -Watch enabled the folder stays live: adding a file adds a tool, editing a signature notifies the client.
- Existing PowerShell modules become tools; piping Get-Command into one cmdlet yields a curated tool config.
- Tools can return UI: a few lines of PowerShell render sortable tables and live forms inside chat, no HTML or JavaScript.
- Agents can write scripts into the folder to extend their own toolbox mid-session.
- Finke says he barely touched the plumbing code himself, handing the hardest bug to a computer-use AI that dug the fix out of logs.
