Working with agents: give them principles, not rules
_AustinCalvert_ · x · 2026-10-22
A repost of @overment's take: when working with agents, look for principles, not rules.
Rules fix the path — models follow them even when they miss the target, or stop when the situation doesn't fit. Principles explain what matters and why, so models can find their own path, sometimes a better one than ours. The accompanying graphic contrasts rules that get followed-but-miss or get blocked with a principle that reaches the target.
