Dev built the MacBook notch app Apple never made — with Claude, open-sourced as NotchFlow
arg7k · reddit · 2026-10-22
A developer open-sourced NotchFlow, a MIT-licensed macOS app that turns the MacBook notch into a living intelligent workspace, built with Claude Opus. Key features:
- Living Dynamic Island: the notch physically expands, morphs, and retracts into the hardware instead of floating as a widget
- AI Agent Control: monitor Claude Code and Codex sessions and approve/deny permission requests right from the notch
- Magic Drop: drag in files, images, PDFs, or links to convert images, merge PDFs, extract text, remove backgrounds
- Live Activities: track builds, GitHub Actions, downloads, timers, and agent activity in one place
- Everyday tools: clipboard history, music controls, screenshots, notes, calendar, Focus timer — native SwiftUI + AppKit, no accounts, telemetry, or subscriptions
Next up: a "Sixth Sense" concept making the notch context-aware, suggesting useful actions before you ask. Contributors and feedback welcome; demo in the README.
