GPU payback math: B300 rigs recoup costs in 10 months, 1GW build could earn ~$38B a year
tctjr · x · 2026-10-22
Quoting SpaceX's CFO claim that new compute pays back in under a year, Ornn Exchange shares supporting numbers at on-demand rates with rolling utilization: both B200 and B300 pay back in about 10 months, while a Vera Rubin rack at current 1-year term rates takes 12-13 months. A 1 GW B300 build would generate roughly $38-39B in annual revenue from on-demand rates alone, before inference revenue.
The context is Tomasz Tunguz's article "The GPU Revenue Ladder," which pairs SpaceX's Q3 report with DeepSeek's inference post to argue inference businesses can be quite healthy even at current prices and efficiencies.
