Claude Desktop guide: use the Code tab, not Cowork — project configs fully loaded only there
PawelHuryn · x · 2026-10-22
Part two of the Claude Desktop 2.0 guide argues non-engineers should use the Code tab, not Chat/Cowork: Code requires a paid plan (Pro/Max/Team/Enterprise), while Cowork can't run your app or keep per-project skills and connectors. Use "This computer" with a new folder per project. On models: Haiku 5.5 for most work on a budget, Opus 5.5 for the hardest strategic work; set Effort to High (Extra on Opus), never Max. A comparison table shows the Code tab loads all project settings — CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md, folder/file rules, project skills, slash commands, custom subagents, .mcp.json and hooks — while Cowork ignores most of them or supports them only partially.
