OpenAI's pricing pages never state actual usage limits, power users cry foul
Monstermage · reddit · 2026-10-22
A heavy user planning to upgrade to the $500 Pro tier rants on Reddit about OpenAI's pricing opacity: from Go to Pro 500, every tier is described only with vague phrases like "more messages" or "maximum power," with no actual usage numbers anywhere. The help page loops back to the pricing page. He assumes usage simply scales linearly with price ($500 = 25x the $20 plan), but OpenAI never confirms this.
He also criticizes Team accounts for having only two tiers and no true high-usage option, and asks why teams can't keep paying at the 50%-of-API rate after hitting limits. As a top-1% early adopter since month one, he calls the combination of vagueness and money-grabbing design disappointing.
