Three citations can still be one observation: agent evals should test evidence lineage, not document counts
jylusdev · reddit · 2026-10-22
A Reddit technical post argues agent context needs evidence lineage: an alert spawns an incident ticket, the ticket is copied into a status report, and an agent indexing all three claims the failure was 'independently confirmed by three sources' — though everything traces to one alert. He proposes an eval design: start with one alert and its copies, add a separately collected measurement (does the answer recognize new evidence or stay overconfident on copies?), then retract the original alert (does the agent notice the ticket and report still repeat the retracted claim?). If derivation is unknown, that uncertainty should stay visible. Different document IDs alone don't establish independence.
