Computational simulations back archaeology: spatial bottlenecks slow cultural diffusion
abenitezburraco · x · 2026-10-22
New computational simulations support archaeological findings that spatial bottlenecks negatively affect cultural diffusion. Spatially explicit models show two waves of cultural spread and density profiles where a narrowed corridor stalls and splits the propagation of cultural traits between groups, reproducing patterns seen in real archaeological data. Work in the computational archaeology / cultural evolution space.
