Eric Schmidt: AI will cut corporate coordination layers, 10,000-person firms need thousands fewer staff
ericwdolan · x · 2026-10-22
Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt says AI will eliminate much of the coordination layer inside large companies: the 10,000-person company could become far leaner, built around inventors, salespeople and leaders. "You've got a couple thousand people you don't need" — AI won't just automate tasks, it will redesign the organization. Responder ericwdolan counters that this is effectively justifying layoffs to defend capex.
